Opportunities abound in this famous Lubbock neighborhood.
The neighborhood of Maxey Park borders Texas Tech University along 19th Street and 34th Street. From east to west, Maxey Park goes from Indiana Avenue to Quaker Avenue. The neighborhood is named for Maxey Lake. It is also home to Lubbock’s Medical District.
Many of the homes in Maxey Park are rented out to college students and young professionals. The TTU Law School, University Medical Center, and Covenant Health System attract young professionals to the area, and there are many businesses there that meet their needs. The average home price in Maxey Park is $78,520 which is lower than the city average. Many of the houses are retro one-story houses with open floor plans, making them great starter homes.
The Maxey Community Center or “Maxey Park” is where this neighborhood gets its namesake, and for good reason! Having all the amenities of a community center and abundant family programming, Maxey Park also features a huge lake and several sports facilities. The center hosts “Movie Night at Maxey Park” every summer so families can watch their favorite flicks and gaze at the West Texas stars.
Students living in Maxey Park will attend school in Lubbock ISD. Starting at Overton Elementary, then moving to S. Wilson Middle School and finishing at Coronado High School. Beginning in middle school, young Maxey Park residents will have access to several magnet programs. EPICS-Engineering Projects in the Community, developed by Purdue University, is a service-learning design program students can start in middle school, and carry through to high school. For college prep, students have access to the Infinity Project, developed by Southern Methodist University, from middle school to high school graduation. At the high school level, students can participate in the year-long Engineer Your World program developed by UTEACH, The University of Texas and the National Science Foundation.
